Self-organization of chiral liquid crystal in cells with photopatterned surface anchoring allows to realize multistable states with hysteresis in the electro-optic switching. Crossed assembly of periodically rotating anchoring patterns gives rise to the formation of different superstructures with smaller or larger amount of chirality. The straightforward fabrication process in combination with the bistable behavior offers great perspectives for photonic applications.
