Ivo Tanghe is an Assistant Professor in the ELIS Department of the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture at Ghent University. He studied Engineering Physics at Ghent University and started his PhD in 2017 at the Photonics Research Group (INTEC), supported by a fellowship from the FWO. After obtaining his PhD in 2023, he continued as an FWO postdoctoral fellow until 2026, when he became an Assistant Professor.
His research focuses on colloidal nanocrystals and integrated photonics, at the intersection of optics, physics, and engineering. He investigates the optical gain properties of novel nanocrystals and designs optical cavities to explore their potential for lasing. A particular focus of his work is the use of ultrafast spectroscopic techniques to study both materials and integrated photonic devices, with the aim of directly resolving stimulated emission dynamics inside laser cavities.
