The effect of a metallic mirror in combination with a Chiral Liquid Crystal (CLC) laser is investigated. CLCs form self-organized helical structures with a photonic bandgap for circularly polarized light. When the CLC is doped with organic molecules, optically pumped lasing can be observed. The combination of doped CLC with a metallic mirror can reduce the total thickness of the resonator. The metal is evaporated on glass by physical vapour deposition and the liquid crystal is E7 with a chiral dopant and the PM597 dye. To optimize the cavity length we introduce a quarter wave plate between the CLC and the metal.
