Pieter Vanbrabant was born in Waregem in 1984. He graduated with greatest distinction in Electrical Engineering at Ghent University in 2007. Nowadays he is doing research on ultra-wide viewing LCD's, diffractive optics applications and finite element optical modelling.
During his graduation year, Pieter studied 6 months at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Stockholm. His master thesis Modelling of the static and (hydro)dynamic switching behaviour in ultra-wide viewing angle LCDs is the result of a six months internship at Philips Research in Eindhoven. This work has been awarded with the FWO-Barco 2007 thesis prize. In March 2009 Pieter has been awarded by the Society for Information Display (SID) with the Mid-Europe Student Award 2009 for outstanding research on information display.
Pieter Vanbrabant is a PhD fellow of the Research Foundation – Flanders (FWO Vlaanderen). He is a member of the KVIV, the IEEE and the SID. Pieter is founder and current chair of the SID Ghent-Lowlands Student Branch.
